Healthy Curry/ Dal:




  • Ingredients: 

  • split and skinned green gram 1/4 cup
  • split red lentils 1/4 cup
  • 1 table spoon oil
  • 6 black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 4 green chilies
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon hing
  • 1/4 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • Cinnamon 1 inch piece
  • Salt 1 and 1/2 teaspoon
  • 3 onions
  • Water as required
  • Lemon juice 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic finely chopped 1 teaspoon
  • Ginger paste 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander leaves finely chopped 1 tablespoon
  • Fresh grated coconut 1 tablespoon

  • Procedure:
  • Mix both  lentils, wash two three times.
  • Add 1 cup water and cook for 15 minutes in a pressure cooker.
  • Peel and chop onion finely.
  • Wash and cut green chilies.
  • Peel and cut garlic.
  • Peel and grind ginger.
  • when pressure settles down, heat deep pan.
  • Add oil in a pan. 
  • Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, black pepper, cinnamon piece one by one.
  • Once they crackle add green chilly pieces, garlic pieces, finely choppes onion and ginger paste.
  • Keep stirring on medium flame for 5 minutes.
  • When onion turns little brown add turmeric powder, hing and mix well.
  • Smash cooked lentils. Add  into the pan.
  • Add 4 cups of water, salt, lemon juice and grated coconut.
  • Keep stirring.
  • Boil for ten minutes.
  • Garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves.
  • Serve hot with bread/ chapati/ rice.
