Bhindi (Okra) Onion Fry


  • Ingredients:
  • Bhindi (Okra) 500 grams
  • 1 tablespoon refined oil
  • 2 onions 
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 1/4 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon hing( asafoetida)
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • Salt 1 teaspoon
  • Sugar 1 teaspoon
  • Red chilly powder 1 and 1/2 teaspoon
  • Fresh grated coconut 2 table spoons
  • fresh coriander leaves 2 tablespoons finely chopped
  • Procedure:
  • Wash okra and wipe them with cotton towel.
  • Make slices of okra.
  • Peel and make slices of onion.
  • Wash and cut small cubes of tomato.
  • Add oil in a pan and heat on medium flame.
  • Add mustard seeds.
  • Once mustard seeds crackle add sliced onions and tomatoes.
  • Stir fry on law flame for ten minutes.
  • Add hing, turmeric powder and red chilly powder.
  • Mix well. 
  • Add okra slices and lemon juice.
  • Keep stirring.
  • Cook okra uncovered to avoid stickyness.
  • Stir fry on law flame for 25/30 minutes.
  • Add salt, sugar, grated coconut and finely chopped coriander.
  • Keep stirring for 5 minutes.
  • Adjust salt, sugar and red chilly powder as per your taste.
  • Serve hot with Chapati.
