Steamed Ripe Jack fruit cake:

This is one of the most favorite dish of konkan. Most of the konkani dishes are based on coconut, rice and jaggery! This steamed ripe jack fruit cake is known as "Sandan".


  • Ingredients:
  • 1 cup ripe jack fruit pulp
  • 1 cup jaggery
  • 1 and 1/4 cup rice semolina,
  • 1/4 cup fresh grated coconut
  • 2 teaspoon oil or ghee
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup water
  • A pinch of turmeric powder
  • salt to taste
  • Procedure:
  • Remove seeds from the ripe jack fruit.
  • Blend the pulp in a mixer jar.
  • Heat oil  or ghee in a pan. 
  • Add rice semolina and roast until little brown.
  • In a big bowl add jack fruit pulp,crushed jaggery, water and salt to taste.
  • Mix well.
  • Add roasted semolina and turmeric powder.
  • Soak for two hours.
  • Grease cooker pot or idli pot with oil.
  • Add baking soda in the mixture.
  • Stir well.
  • Transfer the mixture in a greased pot.
  • Steam for 20 minutes in a steamer.
  • Serve with dollop of ghee and coconut milk.
