Akhkha Masoor( Red lentil) Curry
- Akhkha Masoor( Red lentil) Curry: This is most popular maharashtrian dish. Red lentil curry is a spicy and tasty! This curry goes well with Bhakri or chapati!
- Ingredients:
- Red lentils 250 gram,
- 2 tablespoons oil,
- 2 onions,
- 1 tomato,
- 7/8 garlic cloves,
- 1 tea spoon kashmiri red chilly powder,
- 1 teaspoon regular red chilly powder,
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder,
- 1/4 teaspoon mustard seeds,
- 1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds,
- spice powder,
- salt 1 teaspoon,
- 2 tablespoons coriander leaves
- 1 teaspoon dry mango powder
- Water
- Spice powder: 10/12 black peppers,
- 6 cloves,
- 1 mace,
- 1 black cardamom,
- 1 inch piece of cinnamon,
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds,
- 1/2 teaspoon coriander seeds:
- Roast lightly and grind roughly.
- Procedure:
- Wash red lentils two three times.
- Add 1 and 1/2 cup water and cook for 10 minutes in a pressure cooker.
- Peel and chop onions.
- Peel garlic cloves and make fine paste.
- Wash and chop tomato.
- Heat oil in a pan.
- Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds.
- When they crackle add chopped onion.
- Stir well until onion becomes golden brown.
- Add garlic paste and chopped tomato.
- Add spice powder, both red chilly powder, turmeric powder and dry mango powder.
- Keep stirring on low flame for 10 minutes.
- Add cooked red lentil, 1/2 cup water and 1 teaspoon salt.
- Adjust as per your taste.
- Boil the curry, garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with chapati!
