Horse Gram Flour curry ( Kulith pithle)
Horse Gram Flour Curry is a popular dish of konkan. This curry is made with roasted horse gram flour. Roasted horse gram has nice aroma!
- Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup roasted horse gram flour.
- 3 and 1/2 cups water
- 4 Green chilies
- oil 2 tablespoons
- 3 onions
- 5/6 garlic cloves
- Salt 1 teaspoon
- Mustard seeds 1/4 teaspoon
- 4 dried kokum
- 1/4 teaspoon hing (asafoetida)
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 2 table spoons fresh grated coconut
- Red chilly powder if required
- Procedure:
- Roast horse gram until it turns dark brown.
- Crush roughly and remove outer skin.
- Grind crushed horse gram and make fine flour.
- In a big bowl add one cup water and 1/2 cup roasted horse gram flour. Mix well.
- Peel garlic and onions.
- Chop onions finely.
- Wash and cut green chilies.
- Heat oil in a pan.
- Add mustard seeds in a pan.
- Once they crackle add green chilies and peeled garlic.
- Stir well until little brown.
- Add chopped onion, stir well.
- Keep stirring until onion turns to little brown.
- Add hing powder, turmeric powder and stir well.
- Add horse gram and water mixture.
- Add remaining water, salt to taste, grated coconut and dried kokum.
- Keep stirring for 5 minutes.
- Add salt and red chilly powder if required.
- Adjust consistency.
- Horse gram curry goes well with chapati or rice.
